Agricultural Engineers 2024

Calling all agricultural engineers,  a great opportunity in Dorset and surrounding areas. GCS Agricentre are recruiting.

As you will know, farming and farmers are a vital part of the economy in the UK. Keeping food and produce on our tables throughout the year.

With modern technology increasing and telematics becoming a part of our daily language for products we supply, not only does the industry need good engineers it also needs engineers to be “computer savvy”  too.

When the farmers, our customers, machinery needs a service or repair. We need to get to our customers as quick as possible to keep everyone working in a timely manner.

Our goal for 2024 is to increase our engineer team, either working from our new depot or our Shaftesbury depot.

GCS Agricentre will provide you with manufacturer training as required, good work colleagues and a nice warm workshop (with level floors!) to work out of.  We aim to give our customers a first time fix on repairs whilst maintaining our high net promoter score.

2024 will see GCS Agricentre move to a new purpose built unit on the A37 between Dorchester and Yeovil. We will be working out of fully insulated buildings and with good lighting, heating and level floors.

The service and parts departments will be in the same building which will allow the parts department to position our fast moving parts to quicker access shelf locations for filters etc.

The old Dorchester building had not changed for 40 odd year or so!

Does the agricultural engineer role sound like a career for you?

We are looking for additional agricultural engineers, or budding apprentices, to join our team working out of our new depot on the A37 and our depot to the north in Shaftesbury.

These depots service and repair products from our franchise suppliers. Sales of CASE IH Tractors, Manitou handlers and ancillary equipment along with making our service depart more central in our area means that we need to increase our engineering support staff to suit.

 We offer very competitive rates of pay based upon experience and ability. This is along with company pension and employee store discount.

We are looking for committed people who are  prepared to work hard when needed with the right attitude and want to make a difference in an interesting and varied sector.

The working week is Monday to Friday with Saturday mornings, as required. The position is full time and permanent.

We also offer our customers an out of hours break down service. The out of normal hours is covered on a rota, “on call”  hours working to cover breakdowns etc. this is paid for in addition to your standard hourly rate.

GCS Agricentre has invested in the latest oil delivery systems that delivers the correct grade and quantity of oil to the tractor or machinery.

The quantity of oil delivered to the tractor is correct to the litre, the amount used is then automatically entered to the job card. This speeds up the process and ensures correct invoicing to the customer.

Agricultural engineers Job Description:

  • Requires care and attention to detail at all times.
  • Ability to operate on a “Call Out Rota” and work outside office hours during busy periods including weekends.
  • Requires Relevant Agricultural Engineering Qualifications or transferable from another relevant sector.
  • A full understanding and appreciation of PPE Equipment.
  • The ability to use and understand computer diagnostic systems.
  • To have a full and comprehensive understanding of Health & safety in the workplace and to ensure the safety at all times of both staff and customers.
  • We supply all of our mobile engineers with modern vans.
  • Engineers will require their own tools however we supply all manufacturer specific specialist tools and equipment along with relevant product training. We aim to keep our staff well trained in new technology as it enters the industry.

To apply for this role you will need the following Key Attributes:

  • Technical knowledge in mechanical engineering.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A full UK driving license is required.
  • An ability to think outside the box and creating resourceful solutions.
  • Self Motivated with a “Can Do” attitude.
  • Excellent planning & organisation skills.
  • Excellent personal time management.
  • A keen team player, with the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Dedicated professional attitude and conduct, with clear & effective communication (written and verbal).

The successful applicant needs to understand and appreciate the requirements of a 24/7 agricultural industry. We would consider individuals without agricultural knowledge if they have a proven record in other relevant areas, have transferable skills and an interest to learn.
